I have a massive bee in my bonnet today, & really got my hackles up when I was told at an appointment with an obstetrician this morning, & I quote...
'It is very difficult for vegans to get enough iron in their diet, & most vegans are iron deficient...'
and
'Vegetables don't have as much iron as meat'.
She then went on to say that due to the lack of meat in my diet I should most definitely be taking iron supplements on top of the natural spatone I already take...
It is very unusual for me to be vexed by anything, but I got all hot and prickly as my blood boiled momentarily. I took a deep breath, smiled sweetly, and told her that I had never heard this before, & in fact heard quite the opposite. My meat eating partner then spoke up & said that I had no problems with iron in my previous pregnancy, but she would not relent. So I took the prescription sheet she insisted upon writing, which I will not be collecting, & left in disbelief.
I find it so frustrating when people speak absolute rubbish with such authority & conviction, on a subject which they clearly are very uninformed...
So, another deep breath, I am harnessing this fire in my belly to share some information with you all in an attempt to re-educate and inform, & try and end some of the misconceptions people have about iron & meat.
Regardless of your life choices, it is irrefutable that plantbased nutrition is healing and curing health problems the world over, & top nutritionists and health experts are saying that plantbased living is the way forward for countless reasons...

Eating lots of plant based iron does not necessarily mean all leafy vegetables! (I know not everyone is a fan!) Look at all of this deliciousness!
